Why Moving Every Few Years is Good For Us

There’s a lot of pressure related to owning a home, including saving, changing rates, picking a good house, and the pressure to own a home rather than rent one. However, renting gives more flexibility for tenants to move more often and change residences more easily. Moving homes semi-frequently can actually be extremely beneficial for our mental health and allow us to adapt and change with our environments and make changes to our lives as we evolve.

It helps you clear things out

Moving every few years helps us clear out clutter and donate things we no longer need, which can help us feel less stressed about clutter that builds up over years of staying in one place. So many people who own their homes are constantly talk about needing to clear out a garage, basement, or attic of material items they haven’t used for years. When you move frequently, you must constantly re-evaluate your material possessions, what you need to hold on to, and what is no longer serving you. Most people don’t want to move tons of storage they don’t use frequently, and the moving process makes us take a more critical look at the items we possess.

New spaces give us new energy

Moving into a new space can also give us new energy, making us feel more excited about a new space with new opportunities. We often get excited about moves because they allow us to re-establish self-expression in a new space through decorating and design, and move us physically away from the environment we have existed in for some time. Moving locations, even just down the street can help us to have new perspectives and feel like we have a fresh start and new outlook on life. Taking advantage of a move to re-establish ourselves can help us feel more excited about the future and more motivated in our everyday lives.

It shakes up our routine

Moving every few years also helps us to shake up our routines because our surroundings are different. With every move might come a different commute, a different grocery store, all the way up to a new city or country. Moving semi-frequently allows us the opportunity to shake out of our mundane routines and experience new places and events that we may not have been exposed to at an old residence. Changing our routines can also help us to feel re-energized, more motivated, and even happier with our surroundings and lives.

It allows us to adapt as our lives evolve and change

Another good benefit of moving frequently is that it allows us to make changes to our living situations as we evolve, age, and develop new interests, relationships, and career paths. Unlike a home, where we are locked into a long-term mortgage surrounded by stress of changing rates, flexible living options allow us to have the capacity to make new decisions as our lives change. For example, we may choose to move closer to a new job, move in with a new partner, or move closer to family or friends as necessary. Since we are constantly evolving, having the ability to make changes to our living environment can help us to feel more comfortable with where we are.
