In a very fast-paced society, it’s easy to find ourselves overwhelmed with many to-do lists, tasks to complete, errands to run, and expenses to pay. Being overwhelmed like that can cause us to feel stressed, anxious, distracted, and unhappy. But if we live a more simple life, we can cut down on unnecessary stress and have more fulfilling lives.

Cut down on your expenses

Cutting down on your expenses is a great way to start living a more simple life. There are so many things that we spend money on to make our hectic lives easier. Examples include expensive coffee or takeout on the go, subscription services that we don’t use and convenience fees for last minute transactions. Doing a quick sweep of what you’re actually spending and using can help you gain insight on how to live a more simple life.

The funds you gain back from cutting unnecessary expenses will help you feel more financially grounded. It will also give you more options for saving, investing, or intentional spending on purchases or experiences.

Get rid of clutter

When we lead busy lives, it’s easy to let things pile up. Things like last week’s mail, clothes we haven’t worn in years, and home decor we’ll never use just get in the way. Doing a purge of our homes is an easy way to simplify our lives. Reducing clutter makes us feel better and more focused on the things that are truly important to us It also helps us reduce the amount of cleaning and organization we have to do in order to keep the clutter from taking over our lives.

Embrace simple hobbies

With new technology and products constantly being released, it’s easy to find ourselves buying new gadgets and materials for projects we never have time for. Embracing the hobbies we love that require little supplies can help us save money and time. Focusing on things like running, yoga, cooking, painting or pets can also help us stop bringing clutter in our lives.

Make intentional decisions to live a more simple life

Making decisions with intention is so much easier when things don’t feel so hectic and crazy. When you’re focused on living a simple life, it’s easier to understand why you’re making certain decisions. It can also help encourage intentional decision making. Instead of haphazardly deciding to attend an event, squeeze in an appointment, or run to the grocery store, slowing down and making an intentional plan can help you to avoid feeling overwhelmed and over-scheduled.

Disconnect from technology

Digital clutter is just as harmful as material clutter. Doing a sweep through our digital files and photos can help us feel more organized. In addition, it can be a good idea to take scheduled breaks from social media. Constantly scrolling and taking information in is harmful to our focus, productivity, and creativity. While some people enjoy the ability to connect with others through social media, a constant influx isn’t healthy. Taking stock of who you’re connected to digitally and doing some weeding out can help you feel more connected to those that are important to you.
