Favorite Activities for Fall

I don’t know about you, but my favorite season is here! Today is a gorgeous Fall day and I can’t help but think about all of the activities I want to do before the temperature drops to the negatives! When I think of fall my mind goes directly to spending time outside, trying new cinnamon or pumpkin flavored drinks, family quality time and cozy sweaters.

Although I enjoy the great outdoors, I understand the desire to relax on the couch and watch mindless television with the time change. Below are some simple and adventurous things to do for yourself and loved ones to keep our mind and bodies moving! Many of these are my favorite Fall activities!

Fall Activities

  • Apple Picking – Check out Goebbert’s Apple Orchard or All Seasons Orchard in Woodstock!
  • Hikes – Starved Rock has a gorgeous fall trail!
  • Baking – Pintrest offers great chili or soup recipes for colder nights!
  • Attend festivals – Oktoberfest is always adventurous!]
  • Shopping – Who doesn’t love a new plaid wardrobe?
  • Trail of Lights – Festival of Lights at Phillips Park is available during the holiday season!
  • Pumpkin Patch – I’m sure you see all the social media posts about pumpkin patches so check out Bengtons Pumpkin Patch in Homer Glen, Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch in South Barrington, IL or Sonny Acres in West Chicago, IL]
  • Museums – Field or Art Museum!
  • Reorganize any closets or drawers – the store 5 Below has great organizers!
  • Spend a night watching scary movies – Hocus Pocus, Ghost Busters or Halloween is perfect for late nights!
  • Grill as much as possible – Take advantage of the weather by grilling some steaks, burgers, or veggies before it gets too cold!

Spending time outside or even moving around the house is beneficial for our physical and mental health. According to a study in 2008 by Berman, Jonides, and Kaplan: spending time in nature improves blood pressure, stress level, mood, energy, and lastly, increases our attention span.
